Principles of Reference

INTEGRITY

LUTW is committed to honesty, accountability, strong governance and excellence in the products and services we provide.

ACTION FIRST

As a dedicated development organziation, LUTW works to ensure that all resources are primarily dedicated to the realization of renewable energy and lighting projects. Where conflicts arise between project implementation and other opportunities projects have the first priority.

CONCERN for INDEPENDENCE

LUTW will ensure that its activities are designed and implemented to meet the best interest of our beneficiaries. Although partnerships with institutional donors and key corporations will be established, LUTW will at all times ensure that control of the projects remains with LUTW and that serving the community is the primary objective.

ADVOCACY

LUTW will use its work in the field and position as a respected development organization to lobby for increased awareness at all levels of issues surrounding development and renewable energy.

RESPECT and DIVERSITY

LUTW respects the equality, and embraces the diversity of all individuals regardless of gender, race, social circumstance and cultural heritage. We work along side individuals and communities based on their needs, priorities and commitment.

EDUCATION and EMPOWERMENT

We value education that leads to innovative, sustainable energy solutions, and the institutions and educators that promote advancement and innovation. We value the role that education has in development work, and embrace education in our efforts to transfer technology and be a catalyst for positive change. We engage in education of our volunteers, supporters and partners. We believe education leads to empowerment.

SUSTAINABLE LIGHT and ENERGY

LUTW believes that economic, sustainable light and energy solutions can offer significant opportunities to impoverished individuals and their communities.

  • For our end-use clients, sustainable light and energy translates to furtherance of education, household safety, a cleaner indoor environment and significant economic savings.
  • For local distributors sustainable light and energy products translate into livelihood and family support.
  • For communities, these products offer economic renewal and reduced pressure on scarce resources such as wood for fuel and new opportunities for clean water distribution.
  • Globally, these products contribute to reduced greenhouse gas and other pollution.
