Organizations that are interested in undertaking a lighting project in a community with no access to electricity, but do not have access to a sufficient funding or may be lacking the technical expertise to undertake a project, may consider submitting an application to LUTW to coordinate and implement a lighting project. To apply for your project to become a LUTW Project, please follow the steps outlined below. If a project is approved, LUTW would lead or be highly involved in project planning, training with field workers, logistics coordination, system design, installation and would provide partial funding. It is important to note that all projects require some contribution from the beneficiary, whether in-kind or financial.
Step 1: It is strongly suggested that an intent to submit an application should only be considered after the project proponent has consulted with potential project beneficiaries about the project and has an understanding of how lighting is used in their community currently. The proponent should also have a clear understanding if the demand in the community for lighting is for community based buildings or in the private homes of families. This information should have been communicated to the proponent by members of the community. Knowing this information about your project will help you to complete the baseline assessment, which is the first step in applying for a project. Click on the appropriate box above to download the baseline assessment forms for either a home or a community building lighting project.
Step 2: Once you have completed the appropriate baseline assessment for the community, you may proceed with completing and submitting the project application form.
The LUTW Project Approval Process
Once proposals are received by LUTW, they are reviewed by the Program Director and the Executive Director. As the application is under review, LUTW may contact the applicant for clarification about any aspect of the proposed project. Successful applications will have a clearly stated need, be submitted by organizations that are working with an experienced local organization, have a thoughtful implementation plan, and have the appearance of being financially feasible. Please note that project applications may take multiple months to be approved and funded.
