LUTW is an excellent example of the mutually beneficial results and opportunities created through partnerships. These include major industrial partners, NGO's, local communities and academia. LUTW is able to create strong relationships with various groups in many capacities, through its ingenuity and commitment to making positive changes in the world. LUTW will continue to build strong partnerships to deliver high quality projects and reach more people in need.

Types of Strategic Alliances

Our purpose is to accelerate and replicate the adoption of SSL lighting through:

Delivery Partners - LUTW trains, supplies and affiliates NGOs and other delivery partners which have the capacity and field networks to adopt LUTW's mission. This has allowed LUTW to operate and oversee scores of projects in numerous countries through affiliates and delivery partners.

Industrial Supply Chain Partners - LUTW has built a unique humanitarian-entrepreneurial relationship with manufacturers of three main components of the solid state lighting system, including WLEDs, solar panels and batteries. The objective of such partnerships is to drive down the overall cost of lighting systems to the developing world and help the technology proliferate on a global scale. These partnerships also help to change the attitudes of industrial partners towards renewable energy technologies and their benefits for human development and the environment.

Business Development and Creation of Social Enterprise Partners - LUTW's goal is to be able to purchase assembled equipment and services from a local business to aid in the establishment of a market and provide working capital. A LUTW assisted business ensures that installation, maintenance and support services continue to replicate after our initial projects have seeded the technology.

Financial Partners - LUTW works with developing world financial agencies to source innovative and easily accessible funds for the purchase of these liberating products. Merchant credit and co-operative initiatives assist the poor in purchasing advanced technologies and services without putting a strain on their households' finances.

University of Calgary, The Schulich School of Engineering - The University of Calgary is a major benefactor to LUTW by providing access to advanced research in SSL and alternative energy and underwriting substantial administrative infrastructure.

Global Network - LUTW Foundation is a member of the United Nations agency Global Village Energy Program. Through this association, LUTW has positioned itself as a world authority to guide appropriate technology transfer of SSL systems and products into the developing world economy. At this level, LUTW Foundation will be able to influence development policy as well as provide thought leadership to the diffusion of innovative and liberating technologies into the developing world.

Through its leadership role, and partnerships with international standards setting bodies, LUTW also works to establish appropriate illumination standards for SSL in the developing world over the next three years.
