Tim and Sally Goddard lost their daughter,
Captain Nichola Goddard in May 2006 in Afghanistan. Light Up
The World and The University of Calgary have undertaken this
project to honour her memory. The Captain Nichola Goddard project
has been established to bring solar powered LED lighting to aid
posts throughout Papua New Guinea, the place of Nichola’s
birth.
In July 2008, we plan to arrive in Papua New Guinea to light
up the first 205 of the 1820 aid posts. By July 2011, we hope
to have all 1820 aid posts lit up.
It is an aggressive goal, and we need your
help to accomplish it. On May 2, 2008, we are initiating the
first annual Light Up Papua New Guinea, The Captain Nichola
Goddard Project Gala Fundraiser. We invite you to take part
in this event. May 2, 2008 would have been Nichola’s
28th birthday and we want to
celebrate it!
Christie Blatchford of the Globe and Mail has graciously offered
to be the key note speaker. Don Martin who is a national affairs
columnist, and writes for the Calgary Herald and The National
Post, is our master of ceremonies for the evening.
The funds raised at the event will go towards
Nichola’s
project and also give the community the chance tocelebrate and
meet some of the people who have been touched by Nichola’s
legacy. With your help, we can succeed in our goal.
If you are interested in sponsoring
this event, please view the full sponsorship details here.
Details regarding the Presenting Sponsor can be found here.
We look forward to meeting with you and thank you for helping
us “Light up Papua New Guinea”.
