Canadians
David and Kirsti Haugen
of CDP will be leading
a group to install lamping
systems in the selected
community of Karez Kalan
in the Mazar-e-Sharif
region.
CDP works
long term in rural communities
facilitating education
and literacy training.
During the day, the tasks
of living are so onerous
and time consuming, and
at night, there are no
means of organizing a
suitably lit venue where
classes can be held.
CDP has been working
in Karez Kalan since
May 2004. LUTW systems
lights will be installed
free in several community
houses in this area on
the condition that education
opportunities are realized.
CDP
plans to organize a
loan program where
families in the community
can buy a ‘light
in a box’ set and
pay it back over several
months. CDP North already
has many years experience
in loan programs with
excellent results.
