Tamaya Rio Solar Lighting Project

Objective: Install lighting in 6 remote Amazon villages and
develop a lighting installation model for Indigenous communities

Background
LUTW will be working with Calgary company, Greystone -Arcadis
Environmental Consultants and the following Peruvian government
departments: Regional Institute of Development of Native Communities
(IRDECON, Organizacion Regional AIDESEP Ucayali (ORAU), Department
of Energy and Mines, and the Regional government of Ucayali,
Peru to install 110 WLED lighting systems in five communities
along the Tamaya river located deep in the Peruvian Amazon.
These five communities are located days up river from one another
in the region of Ucayali located in the central eastern portion
of Peru. Ucayali is mainly composed of Amazon forest.
Implementing Method
Greystone’s role in this project is that of a project manager,
fundraiser and Greystone staff will travel to project area to
install lighting systems and train locals. Communities are responsible
to establish a lighting system maintenance fund. LUTW will be
arranging the supply of lighting system components and will be
training Greystone staff to install the lighting systems.
Long Term Vision
To develop a lighting installation model for Peruvian communities
and reinforce Peruvian and Canadian links for sustainable development.
